Universal Contour Wrap

Well it’s official, we’re into December; a  month of Christmas parties and doing everything we love to excess.  If you’ve overdone it already or you have a slinky little party dress to get into then I may just have the perfect treatment for you….

Voyeurs, I give you the Universal Contour Wrap - hugely popular in the eighties and nineties with housewives and fitness fanatics the world over, this treatment is having a bit of a revival.  In a nutshell the Universal Contour Wrap is pretty similar to mummification, minus the grizzly death.  You’re GUARANTEED an inch loss result globally of 6″ and anything above this is a bonus, what’s better is that if you’re sensible, you can maintain it for 30 days or more.

Gauranteed-Stamp-Purple

During my time at New York fashion Week in September and even the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in London last year, the backstage buzz amongst the models was, yes, you guessed it: the Universal Contour Wrap.  With models stating the benefits of the Wrap in addition to their gruelling workout schedules as skin tightening and toning.

Don’t get me wrong, these girls don’t owe their bodies to this treatment, but it’s undoubtedly used for its awesome and undeniable benefits.  Whether it’s to give skin a glossy sheen, a firm touch or to shift an extra couple of inches before a big event, this treatment is about to be back on your radar in a big way.

Classic-treament

THE PROCESS

The Classic Body Wrap is a full body treatment taking around two hours and is always performed by a therapist trained in the specific process.

  1. Before the treatment, your therapist will measure you at particular points on the body.
  2. Bandages which have been pre-soaked in a Clay Solution are then applied using specialist wrapping techniques.
  3. You then wear Vinyl suit to keep warm while you lie back and relax for an hour while the treatment gets to work.
  4. After 60 minutes your bandages are removed, your therapist will re-measure and deliver your inch loss result.

Fresh from Fashion Month, I hit up Newcastle Hair and Beauty Clinic to try out the Universal Contour Wrap and found it surprisingly relaxing.  I was meticulously measured at specific points which were marked with a pen so that the exact same points could be remeasured.  Then, wrapped neck to toe in bandages and wearing what can only be described as a spacesuit, I fell asleep for 45 minutes and was gently woken up when it was time to remove the bandages.

I was warned in advance that I was unlikely to see a huge inch loss result - I’m training for a boxing bout and currently shredding - but both myself and my lovely therapist Kayleigh were shocked to see that I’d actually lost a total of 7.5″ all over.  Something neither of us were expecting, me out of mild skepticism and Kayleigh out of fear there was nothing to lose.

As well as the unexpected inch loss, I can honestly say that after this treatment, my skin has never felt better.  All the Tom Ford Oud Wood Body Lotion in the world can’t replicate the effect this wrap has on your skin - toned, tightened and silky smooth but also with a soft sheen which lasts for days.  I can see why the Victoria’s Secret Angels are hooked.

Interested?  Of course you are!  Newcastle Hair and Beauty Clinic in the heart of the city are offering this treatment for just £55 and better still, they have availability in the run up to Christmas.  What’s that you say, how do you contact them?  Give them a call on 0191 2322800 and get your party dress ready.

Handbag Clinic Launches in Newcastle

Rare pre-loved bags from some of the world’s most renowned fashion houses will be available for sale at Handbag Clinic’s brand new Newcastle store.  Style savvy customers will be able to snap up a piece of fashion history when Handbag Clinic opens on Mosley Street on November 27th.

Handbag Clinic, which repairs and cares for high-end designer handbags and leather goods, as well as fixing worn red Christian Louboutin soles, opened its first standalone store on London’s Kings Road earlier this year to huge success and now, the North East is getting it’s first taste of designer bag maintenance.

Launching in Newcastle with its largest shop, where it can not only provide TLC to handbags in need of anything from a basic clean to a full re-colour, it’s also selling coveted accessories from the houses such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton and Celine to name a few.  Many of the vintage and pre-owned bags are must-have pieces which have been owned and loved by A-list celebrities.

Handbag Clinic Newcastle manager Cherry Cumberland said:  “Handbags from some of these designers simply aren’t available from the high street in Newcastle, let alone rare pre-owned finds like this so we’re expecting huge levels of interest from clients who want to build up a completely unique designer collection.”

“Our bags are all guaranteed authentic and have been sourced globally from customers and trusted suppliers so we’re excited to be able to offer them for sale in Newcastle.  There’s a huge demand for luxury goods in the city and every fashionista dreams of owning a unique, designer bag, whether their favourite designer is Chanel, Celine or Louis Vuitton. Choosing a vintage or pre-owned bag means women in the North East can own and wear a piece of fashion history.”

Some of the first handbags for sale in the Newcastle store will include a large Chanel Cambon tote bag in ivory lambskin with the iconic black interlocking CC logo.  Other Chanel bags available include the iconic Quilted Classic (2.55) handbag in navy blue lambskin with gold hardware and a Cambon bowling bag in pink lambskin. The Cambon has been a favourite of celebrities such as Victoria Beckham and Madonna over the years.

Handbag Clinic has also sourced Louis Vuitton bags, including the classic Speedy 25 monogram and limited edition Alma Multicolour in both black and white, which was designed by the contemporary Japanese artist Takashi Murakami and first launched in 2003 in a collaboration brought together by the French fashion house’s former creative director Marc Jacobs.   It is a style which is becoming increasingly rare since being produced in such limited numbers and obviously no longer being made by Louis Vuitton.

LV handbags

For fans of fellow French house Celine, a luggage Phantom tote in camel calfskin will also be available for sale; the very same model carried by the likes of Kim and Kourtney Kardashian, Naomi Campbell and Alessandra Ambrosio.  I’ll be at the launch party for this awesome new service which is very timely as I also have a Tom Ford handbag in need of a service….

BCharmd Blogger Event

I was recently invited to a Blogger event at BCharmd, a cute little jewellery boutique in Newcastle, I’d heard of the brand, but never actually visited the store so was curious to find out more.

I decked myself out in a Giles Gothic Victoriana blouse, as modelled by Kendal on the LFW FW15 runway, paired it with a Year One leather skirt and Chanel boots and bag, tucked my hair into my collar and off I fled.

The boutique, situated on Shakespeare Street, just South of our famous Monument, is small and cosy with a light airy feel.  With a feature central island and wall fixtures, it’s easy to navigate and the great thing is, unlike so many other jewellery boutiques, the products are accessible - you can, and are actively encouraged, to pick them up and try them on.

I’m greeted with champagne on arrival and introduced to the boutique owner and Creative Director, Stephanie Milburn who not only designs the jewellery herself, but also makes a lot of it in her secret workshop below the boutique.  She’s actually developed and patented a sliding fastener which can be used to lengthen or shorten a necklace or bracelet to give a completely different look each time you wear it - not just a pretty face this one.

BCharmd actually has a pretty cute back story, let me set the scene:

It was 2009 in the coastal town of Tynemouth….

Back to the boutique itself, the cool white and grey colour scheme lets the jewellery do the talking and boy does it talk, clever lighting highlights and reflects just the right amount of sparkle and glass cabinets and mirrors are polished to perfection to create a beautiful environment in which to showcase the products.  There are some great gift ideas and some great interchangeable pieces which can be mixed an matched.  Shop Girl Lindsey Crawford demonstrates the twist and stack technique like a pro on a range of necklaces which can be worn in several different ways.  Lindsey tells me it’s about maximising use and getting the most out of a piece of jewellery and I certainly get that.

With the boutique right in the centre of town, it’s well hidden enough that you might never have heard of it, but so well placed that you can’t miss it.  So if you like a bit of sparkle and you haven’t yet been then I’d urge you to check it out, the staff are friendly and approachable and the boutique has a warm atmosphere, you’re bound to find something you love in there - I know I did.  Plus, you’ll be supporting local North East business and getting something relatively unique - what’s not to love?

I was gifted some beautiful jewellery by Stephanie and the team at BCharmd to wear to a fashion show and couldn’t believe how many compliments I got in just that one night so huge thanks to BCharmd for surprising me with that, you guys rock!

BCharmd is having a Champagne Christmas Party this weekend and you’re invited!  Its an all day event on Saturday November 21st 10am - 6pm so there’s never been a more perfect time to get in and check out the cutest little jewellery store that’s right under your nose.

Maybe I’ll see you there this weekend, I have a big Christmas party coming up and I could do with an injection of quirky sparkle….

2015 International Designer of The Year Named

The 2015 International Designer Award will be presented to Alessandro Michele, in recognition of the year’s remarkable achievements in his role as Creative Director at Gucci. Taking the reins as Creative Director back in January 2015, his appointment marked a brave and significant shift in aesthetics for Gucci – a house famed for its leather goods and accessories; a phenomenal powerhouse that currently ranks No.2 in the global luxury goods market.  In the ten short months since Michele took up the role, he has presented four stellar collections that have caught the attention of the industry and consumers alike, and have set a brand new fashion agenda, confirming Gucci’s position as a truly directional fashion house.

The appointment of Michele as Creative Director marks the culmination of a successful 13 year career with the brand – having been brought into the Gucci fold by Tom Ford himself back in 2002 after a brief stint at Fendi, where he served as Senior Accessories Designer.  Michele’s unique understanding and appreciation of the historical codes of Gucci married with his modern take on romanticism have created a compelling new narrative for the brand.  His relationship with symbolism and granny chic has been evident at every turn.

Charged with overseeing all aspects of creative responsibility for the label, Alessandro Michele’s truly contemporary and highly original vision has undoubtedly returned the iconic house of Gucci to the frontline of fashion, making headway and headlines for all the right reasons; namely the amazing garments he’s consistently producing.

Natalie Massenet MBE commented: “Alessandro Michele is a phenomenon at Gucci. His exciting eclectic aesthetic has made an overnight impact on global fashion trends. It is not just that he has made the brand covetable and the product so desirable. He has also reinvigorated the retail experience bringing back playfulness and magic to the flagship store. This is a man who has his customer in his heart and celebrates them.”

Do you agree with the choice of designer for this award?  I know I do, I’ve long been a fan of Michele’s and his eclectic style fits my personality just perfectly.  Want to have your say?  Then join the conversation on social media: #BFA

Agent Provocateur Holiday Campaign

Whether you’re a beginner on the slopes or a seasoned adventurer, we’ll guide you on your way to very happy holidays….

That’s the promise of Agent Provocateur of their latest Holiday campaign and boy do they deliver.  In a suitably tongue in cheek campaign titled “Hit My Slopes.”  The Holiday collection is divided into Beginners Slope, Intermediate Slope and Advanced Slope (for the black run lingerie adventurer).

The  latest fun campaign features Abbey Clancy - an odd choice for the brand and notably more downmarket than some of their other recent high profile spokesmodels, namely Paloma Faith and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.  Not that Clancy doesn’t look smokin’, she obviously does, but then she’s also obviously had some help in that department.  Looking at the campaign, kudos to Agent Provocateur, it’s a fresh new feel for the brand, it’s seasonal and directional but somehow even decked out in some of the best lingerie in the world, Clancy still manages to look vacant and dare I say it, even a little simple.  Oooooh controversial….

As usual, Agent Provocateur have given us some new shapes, new style playsuits as well as the barely there thongs and bras we’re used to; there’s something in this collection for everyone, whether you’re new to investing in your lingerie wardrobe (you’ll want the Beginners Slope) or  a seasoned pro adding to your ever growing collection (take the Advanced Slope and head straight for the Black Run section), I guarantee you won’t be able to look at this collection without wanting to shop it.  Luckily for all you guy Voyeurs, Agent Provocateur have a handy Gent’s Guide to help you find the perfect item(s) for your gal (and your lucky self of course).

So cruise on over to Agent Provocateur, check out the slopes and try not to let Clancy’s expressionless face put you off the amazing lingerie…

Kendall Jenner: Down The Rabbit Hole

In a round up of the most fantastical looks of this season, Kendall Jenner is transformed into a badass Alice for Vogue magazine’s Holiday issue.  The Alice in Wonder.Land themed shoot, shot by esteemed photographic duo Mert Alas and Marcus Pigott (Mert and Marcus), features Jenner in dark smokey eye make up and an icy blonde wig as she takes up the role of Alice in a super trippy and very un-Christmassy spread for the magazine.

“The pyrotechnics of Lewis Carroll’s imagination thrive on the London stage in wonder.land, a new, hyper-modernized tale of Alice and her follies,” the magazine reads.  “Kendall Jenner—with some fantastical friends—trips down the rabbit hole in the season’s splendours.”

Dripping in haute couture from houses Dior, Louis Vuitton and Saint Laurent to name a few, the spread features Jenner’s signature steely gaze and the most runway-worthy caterpillar I’ve ever seen, all in the name of fashion.

The magazine, covered by Jennifer Lawrence, hits newsstands November 18th, go grab it for the full weird, wonderful and hallucinogenic spread.
